The cabinet of Dr. Caligary

THE CABINET OF DR. CALIGARI

The cabinet of Dr. Caligari is a german horror film directed by Robert Wiene in 1920. The main actors are Werner Krauss and Conrad Veidt, and it is set in a village recreated in a theatre.

Content analysis
Although many people would say that the theme of the film is the crimes committed by Dr. Caligari and Cesare the somnambulist, I would say that the theme is the madness coming from Franzis’ brain.
The plot of the story is Franzis telling his story about Dr. Caligari and the crimes, in his madness, as that’s not the reality.
I honestly think that the director created a captivating conflict as during the film I was kind of anxious to finally know what Dr. Caligari’s mystery was.
The main characters are Franzis, Dr. Caligari and Cesare the somnambulist; and the minor ones Alan (Franzis’ friend), Jane and the doctors in the mental hospital.
I have to say that in this film, I cannot really answer who my favourite or least favourite character is, as what you think at first isn’t what you think in the end. But if I had to answer I’d say that my least favourite would be Caligari because I can see him kind of evil, and my favourite one Franzis, as without him there would be no plot twist.
In my opinion, one of the most important actions took by a character would be when Franzis decides to investigate the crimes of murders being committed in the village. He is motivated by his friend Alan being murdered and that is related to the whole story told by Franzis.
In the end, the conflict is resolved by showing us that the mad one was Franzis and not Caligari, that everything in the story came out from Franzis’ mind. I think that the filmmakers are trying to tell us a story from a mad mind to show us that nothing is what it seems. I think that more than being successful, they were magistral.
As I cannot think of anything I didn’t like about the plot, what I liked most was being surprised in the end because I’d been deceived. On the whole, I liked it.

Technical Analysis
I liked the actors’ work because their facial expressions were very accurate for each scene.
The conversations were necessary, as the film was mute, I needed to have some dialogues to understand the story well.
In the film, the camera doesn’t really move, as it is a theatre. But there are usually approaches to the characters to dramatise the scene.
I believe that for that epoque, the movie flows quite well as it’s also short indeed. It isn’t neither fast or slow, it’s just accurate.
The music enhances the story perfectly as it makes us enter in a tetric atmosphere and gives us tenseness. In fact I would have used the music in the film the way it is, I wouldn’t change it.
I have to say that the events portrayed didn’t ring true, as it wasn’t the reality indeed. For example all the background, the houses and streets for instance, is irregularly made to tell us that it’s a distorted reality, because it is what comes from the madness of Franzis. The background is a very good visual aid to tell us that what they are telling us isn’t the reality. But for example, when they show us the reality, the village in the background is just normal and regular.
All the scenes were accurate, but together, didn’t match the reality, as I’ve said, it wasn’t real.

Conclusion
I personally do not think that this film shows us any value or so, I think it is just entertainment. So I wouldn’t say that I’ve learnt anything from this film.
At first I thought the film was a bit tedious, but when I reached the end, the fact that I’d been deceived made me think the film is a masterpiece.
Finally I believe that the film is in the given list as it’s one of the first films made and it’s a classic. But I think it’s not an easy film to analyse.

Picture in Antiguo

This is the picture I took in Antiguo. I thought that the switchen off lamp in the middle of the arc would make a mysterious atmosphere and that’s why I took the picture. I used some of the tips about photography learnt the previous term such as symmetry and low contrast.

Introduction Krissia Challenge

INTRO TO THE CHALLENGE

This month we are working with people from Fomento de San Sebastian and Angulas Aginaga. Angulas Aginaga told us about a challenge that consists on inventing new ideas to make children eat more fish. For that we are having some lessons that are going to help us to build our ideas. On the one hand we will have a lesson with Iñigo from Fomento San Sebastian to learn how to make a Canvas and a Swot. Then we are having a class of attitude and team working to know how to work with different people. After that, we are meeting people from Angulas Aginaga to present our idea to them and make changes if it is necessary. Then we will have a lesson with Javier Miguel who is a professional of visual thinking, and with him we will learn to explain our idea in a visual and clear way. And to finish we are going to have the last lesson in which we will have to present our last idea.

We think that is going to be an enriching experience because we are going to work for a company for the first time, and we are going to have the opportunity to know how a company works. Furthermore, we are exited because we are also learning about visual thinking. We will do our best to convince them that our idea is the best and that although we are really young people, we can do a great job.

Canvas and SWOT

As you know, we have been working with Krissia, they told us to give them ideas to make children eat more fish. That it why, we thought that it could be a good idea to create some characters appealing for children, and put some recipes in the back for parents.

Visual thinking

We had the honor to meet an incredible artist called Javier Miguel Garay who taught us how to to a visual thinking. This visual thinking of our project for krissia shows in a really clear way what our idea is about. We really enjoyed this activity and we think we did a great job!

Krissia challenge

Our team (Irati, Aitziber, Irati and Aitana) has made an incredible job to archieve our idea. The challenge was about making children eat fish. We have been working with Angulas Aguinaga for about six weeks and even if we have been working hard, we have had an amazing time.

 1. Detail your idea: Our idea would be to change the package introducing appealing characters for children that we will show them to you later on, we are gonna insert some recipes for parents to have ideas to make their children eat fish. Furthermore, we are gonna add 2 stickers per package for children to collect them, in that way children will like to buy more packages.

 2. Two virtues Children will eat more fish in a healthier way and parents will get inspired by the recipes for cooking and they will save time as it is easy to prepare.

 3. Two problems and your response Because of the author’s rights, it would be expensive to add a character such as spongebob so we decided to create our own characters (Kris and Sia). The other problem was that at first we thought to put the recipe of the croquetas just in the package but then we thought to sell them already prepared, as it eases parents job.

 4. How to make it real? What do you need to make it possible. On the one and, the only thing needed would be the machine to print the new packages and to make the stickers. On the other and, we would also need the machine for the production of the croquetas.

5. Which points of the challenge do you address with your proposition. They asked us to promote the eating of fish in children and young people and even if we focused on children, we think we archieved their expectations. Also as we ad to promote krissia, we put krissia in our product. And we archieved the idea of catching the attention of children by adding te collectionable stickers.

6. Which technical help do you need. As we have already mentioned we will need a machine to print the new packages and to make the stickers, and also for the production of the croquetas. Another technical help that we would need will be publicity company to inform the clients about our new ideas.

7. Why is your project the best possible? Because our idea will be appealing for parents since we are showing them different and easy ways to make children eat more fish, and it also will be appealing for children because they will love the characters that we are going to make, and they also will like to complete the collection of the stickers.

Third term evaluation

Well, this post will sadly be the last one, goodbye blog... But first I'll evaluate my third term. This term, I feel that I have worked...
